Bail Bonds:
Not everyone knows how they work. Here is a quick low down...
When you are in jail the judge may order a bond or bail be posted before you can get out of jail. For example, a judge ordered $100,000 bail or $25,000 cash on a case of mine. So, the client (or a really, really nice friend/family member) would either give $10,000 to a bail bond company or give the court $25,000 cash.
If you give the bail bonds people $10,000 you don't get anything back. The money was basically the "fee" for the loan of the $100,000 promised to the court. The bonds people don't actually fork over the money but have to have it in a trust account.
If you give the court the cash, then after the case is resolved the client would get the money back (if the court didn't order fines and restitution taken out of it first).
If the client does not show up for court then the Judge can forfeit the bail. The client would lose the $25,000 cash. If they posted a bond then the bonds people have to give the $100,000 to the court. That is where the Bounty hunters come in. They find the people and bring them in so they can try to persuade the judge to give them their money back.
